The Art of Cheyenne Wright

The Package

As I opened the package that came today, Maxine saw me pull out a book she had never seen before.

"BOO-k!" she said excitedly and rushed to get a closer look

"Yes" I said "a very special book... daddy read this book a LOT growing up."

"Because, when I was your age my mom used to read it to me -- and before that, when MY mom was your age -- her mom, who had the same name as you do, she read it to her..."

"...and now it's my turn to read it to you..."

Sometimes you need to take a break from all the stuff you are supposed to be working on and just make a piece of art for yourself. This is one of those.

I've been listening to a lot of "Thrilling Adventure Hour" this week. A podcast that has  apparently been around for years, but for some reason no one told me about it.

It's amazing, funny, smart, star-studded, brilliant, gross, and ...from Earth. Had I known about it earlier I would have started a campaign for it to be nominated for a HUGO award. Because it deserves one. Maybe next year.

The show bears a strong likeness to the old timey Girl Genius Radio Theatre podcasts we used to do way back when (ten years ago?) and fill me with a mighty urge to do them again. Adding to them the many other things I've concocted over the years, Doc Einstein: The Quantum Man, the Tesla Rangers, the Adventure Society. Apex :Ape Super Scientist, Chronopol, Silver Spector... and on and on.

My brain holds too much stuff for me to write and draw and get out into the world. Especially on my own. I need cadres- cohorts. Without them I fear I am doomed to watch from the sidelines and think about what might have been.

Leveraging the Hive Mind

Hey all -- so I need to track down a page in the vast Girl Genius backstory and thought I could use some help

TURKEY DAY 20

--- The Turkey Chainsaw Massacre ---

Friday - November 23th 2012

-- the day AFTER Thanksgiving --

... First there was Turkey and all was good. But mankind was not satisfied with mere roasted bird. We transgressed against the natural order, we played God with our jellied cranberries and salmonella ridden stuffing. Those with cooler heads tried to warn our brothers and sisters about the dangers of deep fryers or the horrible blasphemy "Turkducken". But our pleas fell on deaf ears. Then came the Turkpocolypse. So much pain, so much stuffing. ...

Thanksgiving -- a time for family, food, and togetherness. When you are sick of all that -- ditch 'em and come help this sad little orphan celebrate yet another marathon showing of the greatest puppet show in the history of television.

Mystery Science Theater 3000.

For twenty years... TWENTY YEARS!!! I have made a tradition out of watching MST3K every Thanksgiving since the original "TURKEY DAY" marathon way back in 1992. -- but I always get an empty feeling when I watch it alone. So now I try to gather as many friends as I can to watch it with me.

--

MOVIE SIGN starts at Noon and goes as long as there are people to watch it with me. Punch, Pie, and Weird Party Games will be provided as needed. No one who shows up is expected to stay for the whole thing. As in life, people will drift in and out - and sometimes even come back for a second go, after settling various karmic (and/or family) obligations.

--

Rifftrax

as the recognized heirs to MST3K, along with The Film Crew DVD's will also be in rotation. I'm thinking either

JAWS

or

INCEPTION

. As this is a freeform event, I can't give an exact Movie Sign time for that - but I'll probably save it for sometime after 7pm

I am aware that many folks will have their own plans for that weekend, and others who would love to attend but live nowhere near my tiny Seattle home -- To them I encourage you to adopt the spirit of the day...

  • stay home from the mall!
  • Bloat yourself on pie!
  • Watch MST3K all night till your eyes bleed!

Rifftraxers: Bring a copy of whichever film in the Rifftrax Catalog you would like to watch and I will set us up with the track

If you can be in Seattle and would like to attend --

[ Please RSVP for directions ]

If you have any requests send them in to my

[ MST3K Request Line ]

so I can track them down before the big day

Put the Fun in Funding

HoEkick.jpg

Hey all - I'm back from SteamCon and hard at work at my digital drawing table trying to make everyone happy with glittering new art. While I finish up Illo's for Deadlands Noir andUnexploded Cow I've also let my self get roped into a few other crowdfunded projects --

First off the Hell on Earth Miniature Mega-Release (at the time I write this) has only 9 days left. It's already hit it's funding goal, but we have plenty of strech goal minis that I am dying to see get unlocked.

Next there is The World of Steam - a webvideo project best discribed as a steampunk Twilight Zone -- WoS has about 17 days left to get it's funding and every little bit helps. Give it a look if you are a fan of Steampunk, the Twilight Zone, or Indie productions that want to bypass the traditional hollywood system and try and bring to the screen what people want -- intead of what mega-corps say we want.

Lastly for all of you in the Pacific NorthWest I'll be at ZOECon this weekend (Nov 9-11 2012) Running some Deadland Noir games signing books and maybe selling some original art (I need to do some in-person fund-raising since Kickstarter doesn't accept "I NEED a Dentist" as a viable project)

The Lady Heterodyne Airship Regatta

A poster we've made for the Airship Regatta event I've held every year at Steamcon -- This year we will have a souvenir stand selling prints and other goodies to help recoup the cost of the show.

I also designed a pin for this years Steamcon - like I have for the previous two years - After I sent them the design they did not responed to my further emails -- but if they DID go with my pin it should look like this. Silver - with red enamel in the center behind the bat.
